Foghouse among finalists announced at sixth annual Scottish Gin Awards

Foghouse Gin is a finalist in the sixth Scottish Gin Awards.

A North East gin producer whose success recently saw him win four Gin Cooperative Awards is set to compete against other national producers at the upcoming Scottish Gin Awards

Foghouse Spirits was created by Mike Stuart, who founded Inverurie Whiskey Shop in 2015 and is produced in conjunction with award-winning Lost Loch Spirits in Royal Deeside.

At the 2022 Gin Cooperative Awards held recently in August, the brand won Gold Medals for Best Scottish Gin & Tonic, Best Scottish Distilled Gin and Community Judges Award, as well as a Medal for money for the new Scottish gin.

It is now going up against several other brands for Best Distilled Gin and Best Brand Image at the sixth annual Scottish Gin Awards.

A total of 171 gins, created by 56 Scottish gin producers, qualified for the final of the national competition which combines large-scale taste and commercial evaluations.

Nearly 200 gin products were analyzed in an extensive blind tasting conducted as part of a live event and managed by international sensory management consultancy Cara Technology.

30 expert judges from the distilling and beverage industry were presented in sample flights and invited to taste and rate each liquid across a range of quality standards.

The results have revealed a ranking table of the tastiest gins and the winners will be announced at the annual Scottish Gin Industry event in November.

Adam Hardie, Scottish Gin Awards Chairman and Head of Catering at Johnston Carmichael, said: “The 2022 Scottish Gin Awards are a great opportunity to celebrate the many achievements of our industry over the past 12 months.

“Being named a finalist is a massive achievement, especially given the challenges of the past two and a half years and shows the true resilience and innovation of our industry.”

The Scottish Gin Awards are one of the UK’s most comprehensive and highly regarded gin competitions, judging both taste and commercial performance.

A 41-person jury is made up of some of the UK’s leading experts in gin distillation and gin business management.

All winners will be announced at an industry event and gin-themed gourmet dinner on Thursday November 10 at the Glasgow Doubletree by Hilton Hotel.
