Goa Spice Restaurant Franchise Establishes Another Foundation

A new Indian restaurant has arrived in Rotherham and is ready to ignite the taste buds.

Experienced entrepreneur brothers, Mamun and Masum Ali, whose Goa Spice franchise already has restaurants in South and West Yorkshire, have set up their latest catering business at the Double Barrel in Thurcroft.

Mamun Ali said, “We are very excited to expand our reach to a great new location in Thurcroft.

“Goan cuisine consists of regional dishes from the state of Goa, located along the west coast of India by the Arabian Sea.”

Bought by entrepreneur and Gala Tent CEO Jason Mace in 2013, the Double Barrel has long served as a steakhouse bar and restaurant in the area.

It was built in 1971 and has been a busy place and a big part of the community. However, following the pandemic, it closed in February 2021.

The revived venue, also licensed, will serve Indian lager on tap, along with a range of additional bottled refreshments and a selection of wines from around the world. It will open in June 2021.

Masum Ali said: ‘We will be investing over £ 60,000 in new kitchen equipment, mood lighting and authentic decor, everything down to the tablecloths is really upscale because we want to complement the building as much as possible.

“The menu is extensive and we believe we have created affordable luxury for the enjoyment of the local community.

“Our chefs have a real passion for creating quality Goan spicy dishes using fresh ingredients.

“To add extra value, we will be offering a pickup and delivery service so diners can enjoy Goan cuisine from the comfort of their own homes. “

Mace added: “I have worked with Mamun and Masum before with their Mexborough outlet in the Empress building which has been a phenomenal success due to the classic location and of course the amazing food they create.

“The Double Barrel will turn out to be a much larger scale operation, as it is a huge place that can accommodate around 140 seats inside, and there is room outside for more. 70 additional seats, so no COVID-19 restrictions should hold this restaurant.

“The venue is truly one of a kind and specializes in booking large parties and renting exclusive rooms.”
