Vernon’s House of Q impressed the judges for the second time at the recent National Barbecue Association Excellence Awards in Fort Worth, TX.
The local sauce and spice maker came home with three outstanding awards at the competitive event.
The professional association NBBQA annual competition judges products and brands from across Canada and the United States.
Q’s house submitted six of its 11 products to the competition and won fourth place for its Five Star BBQ sauce in the sweet tomato category; fourth for its new Competition Rib Rub in the pork category; and fifth place for its apple butter barbecue sauce in the fruit sauce category.
“Winning prizes in the highly competitive American barbecue space as a Canadian is huge,” says owner and pit manager Brian Misko.
“I’m very proud of this year’s awards, especially as some of our long-time favorites like Apple Butter got a call for a prize. People have loved this sauce – ever since we made it ages ago. 15 years!”
Misko led his team of pitmaster cooks to a world championship in Las Vegas at the 2014 World Eating Championships and had a national best-selling cookbook called “Grilling with House of Q”. It has been seen on Food Network Canada and Global TV since 2007, and was featured for 10 years on The Jeff O’Neil Show on CFOX Radio Vancouver.
House of Q products include sauces, seasonings and seasonings and are available in over 400 stores in Canada and over 100 stores in the United States.
